Restores the ability to upload non-image files in WordPress 4.7.1 and 4.7.2.
As of April 2026, Disable Real MIME Check is a WordPress mime plugin with 10K+ active installations and a 4.9/5 rating from 34 reviews. It has been downloaded 157K+ times in total. Requires WordPress 4.7.1+ and PHP false+. Available on WordPress.org since 2017. Last updated 8 years ago — may have compatibility concerns. Downloads are down 14% this week. Top alternative: Safe SVG.
With the upgrade to WordPress 4.7.1, some non-image files fail to upload on certain server setups. This will be fixed in 4.7.3, see the Trac ticket.
In the meantime, this plugin is a workaround that disables the recently introduced strict MIME check to restore the upload functionality.
Don’t forget to remove the plugin once WordPress 4.7.3 is available!
This plugin solved a problem that had me at an impasse. No matter what “solutions” from WooCommerce and other forums/posts I’d tried, I was unable to import a CSV or Tab-Text file to update details for my products. I installed this plugin and, voila!, success. It’s a one-trick pony, but it’s the thing I needed. Thanks! Sergey! (WordPress 6.3, WooCommerce 8.0.2)
IDK if it’s a bug in WC or something, but I can’t upload .csv files, had to hook this in so I can update some prices… very helpful!
While some files are transferred, I get the following warning: “Sorry, you are not allowed to upload this file type.”
It seemed to work when removing HTML from my .csv file. However, sometimes it is preferred to keep HTML when importing.
This plugin fixed the issue.
Made it super easy to fix this issue. Thanks!
couldn’t get past the “Sorry, this file type is not permitted for security reasons” error. This plugin did the trick thank you.
