The Image Rotation Repair plugin simply fixes image orientation based on EXIF data. This is primarily a patch for mis-oriented images delivered from iPhones. Functionally it filters all uploads and if EXIF->Orientation is set to a number greater than 1, then the image is resaved with a new orientation before the image is processed by wordpress.
NEW – supports postie plugin!
No documentation needed.
This is the only plugin of its kind that I have found that works with Postie, and it does the job perfectly.
Don’t worry that this plugin is 6 years old, it still works perfectly in 2017. Don’t bother downloading other plugins to deal with EXIF data rotation issues from silly iPhone pictures, this is the plugin you want.
When you upload a photo to the media library, this plugin strips the EXIF data and rotates the picture according to the EXIF data before stripping it. Presto!
Thanks so much to the author(s) for their work on this simple feature that should be a base part of WordPress.
I want a solution to this issue, and after reading Dave Perrett’s excellent post on EXIF Orientation values here I tried this plugin with the example test images on GitHub here.
By default with WordPress vanilla install currently, the images uploaded to the media library and placed in a post are not ‘corrected’ and maintain their incorrect orientation, which is not good.
After adding & activating the plugin, deleting the images permanently and then importing them again, I got the same result. So it seems the plugin has no effect.
Can anyone else corroborate this?
UPDATE: After testing this (which didn’t work) and many other plugins, I’ve confirmed that Fix Image Rotation plugin does work with 4.7.2 version of WordPress (vanilla).
I was running into issues where I needed to upload a bunch of photos from a client that had been taken from their iphone. WP was doing all kinds of funky rotation and this straightened them out!
Works like magic, saved my life. I was going to pull my hair out because all images i uploaded from smartphone were rotated, then I found this awesome plugin. This fixed everything and saved y hair too 😉 Thanks very much!
