What The File is the best tool to find out what template parts are used to display the page you're currently viewing!
As of April 2026, What The File is a WordPress file plugin with 40K+ active installations and a 4.9/5 rating from 882 reviews. It has been downloaded 589K+ times in total. Requires WordPress 3.1+ and PHP 5.3+. Available on WordPress.org since 2012. Recently updated within the last 3 months. Downloads are down 11% this week. Top alternative: Theme Editor.
What The File adds an option to your toolbar showing what file and template parts are used to display the page you’re currently viewing.
You can click the file name to directly edit it through the theme editor, though I don’t recommend this for bigger changes.
What The File supports BuddyPress and Roots Theme based themes.

Another plugin I’ve built, that I’m very proud of is Related Posts for WordPress. Related Posts for WordPress offers you the ability to link related posts to each other with just 1 click! And it’s 100% free! Check it out on the WordPress repository.
I got this for one purpose, and it performs that with aplomb.
I’ve been using this plugin for years and find it very useful.
Only downside is some of the new themes and plugins don’t allow it to show the exact file, just the main one, which is often just a page referencing a bunch of others.
Es un plugin muy interesante y muy útil en la fase de desarrollo para ver dónde se están ejecutando realmente las funciones hookd de wordpress.
cool. very helpful !!!!
This plugin is GREAT for finding out which templates are being loaded on a page. If you are using a child theme, this plugin is a MUST have!
