WP Strip Image Metadata is a privacy focused WordPress plugin that helps in removing potentially sensitive metadata from your uploaded images.
What is image metadata?
Image metadata is extra information embedded in image files. This information is stored in a variety of formats and contains items like the model of the camera that took a photo.
However, image metadata may also contain identifying information such as the GPS location coordinates of an image taken with a smartphone for example.
This plugin provides an easy enabled/disabled setting so you can make the call on when image metadata should be removed.
Note: this plugin requires the “Imagick” or “Gmagick” PHP extension to function.
Excellent plugin, simple and to the point. Confirmed it works perfectly via the “Edit more details” link when viewing an image in the media gallery.
Simple but most effective.
Removes the exif and meta data from images in the native image folder.
1 issue I came across that -scaled images block the plugin from functioning so with batch removal make sure you uncheck the scaled images..
Thank you for creating this!
Hi,
Great work you’ve done with this plugin. Perfect timing considering the privacy concerns of our world today.
I’d like to kindly ask you to add the ability to remove “description” of uploaded images in real time too. Some plugins automatically add unnecessary data … The media related ones anyway and this is why it’s a goldmine.
The only case where metadata is stored is if we go back to edit the image manually. Looking forward to your response/update.
Thanks for an awesome work and hopefully, we can see more tools that continue to take privacy seriously
