It took me some useless trials to get other block themes running as I imagined and wished (my questions were not answered until today).
Fortunately I stumbled across a handful helpful WP Video-Tutorials showing a few really beautiful themes fitting my needs and requirements.

I decided on Bricksy theme: nice and clear design, contemporary yet timeless, state-of-the-art, unobtrusive and not overloaded, wide range of beautiful block patterns, easy to use.
And, much more, the support is excellent, friendly, competent and rapid.
